Under Michigan Law, Malicious Destruction is defined as a person who intentionally and spitefully destroyed or injured another person’s house, barn, or other building and/or its’ accessories.
Penalties
Misdemeanor – Value of destruction less than $200
Up to 93 days in jail;
Fine of not more than $500 (or 3 times the value amount); or both
Misdemeanor – Value of destruction is $200 or more but less than $1,000; or second offense
Up to 1 year in prison;
Fine of not more than $2,000 (or 3 times the value amount); or both
Felony – Value of destruction is $1,000 or more, but less than $20,000; or third offense
Up to 5 years in prison;
Fine of not more than $10,000 (or 3 times the amount); or both
Felony – Value of destruction is $20,000 or more; or fourth offense
Up to 10 years in prison;
Fine of not more than $15,000 (or 3 times the amount); or both
